The Institute for Research in Social Communication of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) is recruiting a researcher at R1 level (early-stage researcher working under expert supervision, typically prior to obtaining a PhD degree), with a start date from 8 May 2026 (or as agreed), for a fixed-term contract until 31 December 2026, with the possibility of extension (also depending on project funding). The position is being filled in order to strengthen the team of an ongoing project in the role of research assistant.

We are a leading research institute in Slovakia, focusing on social and educational psychology (see https://uvsk.sav.sk/en). In 2022, we were rated as one of Europe’s top performers in an international evaluation of SAS.

Eligibility:

A prerequisite for the position is that the applicant holds a Master’s degree in Psychology. We are looking for colleagues with an interest in research on minority issues, particularly LGBTQI+, and with experience in conducting qualitative research in this domain, especially using discourse analysis and/or interpretative phenomenological analysis.

A proven record of scientific publications and experience from international research stays are considered an advantage. The applicant must be able to conduct research and analyze qualitative data in Slovak or Czech. Proficiency in English at a minimum level of B2 is required. Knowledge of additional foreign languages is welcome. The position also requires the ability to work independently in research as well as to collaborate effectively within a research team. Previous experience participating in research projects is considered an advantage.

The starting gross monthly salary will be set in accordance with Slovak Law No553/2003, depending on qualifications and length of experience (in salary scale 6 it is a minimum of 1174,5 EUR). We offer performance bonuses based on publication outputs.
