Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to the Institute’s seminar entitled “Artificial Intelligence, Social Media, and the Politics of Anti-Technology”. Dr. Ján Žilinský (Technical University of Munich) will talk about his paper co-authored by Thomas Zeitzoff (American University). The authors deal with the rapid rise of new communication technologies, accelerated by the rise of AI, which sparked debate about their societal impact, from promoting polarization and disinformation to enabling collective action. To explore public attitudes toward technology, which remains understudied, the authors developed a new anti-technology scale measuring views on social media, artificial intelligence, and concerns about modernity. The seminar will present findings from surveys conducted in Slovakia and 10 other countries, highlighting the prevalence of perceived social media harms. The seminar will be in english.
